Nursing is an art: and if it is to be made an art, it requires
an exclusive devotion as hard a preparation, as any painter's
or sculptor's work; for what is the having to do with dead
canvas or dead marble, compared with having to do with
the living body, the
temple of God's spirit? It is one of the Fine
Arts:  I had almost said, the finest of Fine Arts.”
- Florence Nightingale

My name is Kristi Rittenhouse, a 2011 graduate from Kent State University, Stark, with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing. Nightingale has played a major role in the nursing field and her quote reveals that nursing is truly one of the greatest “Fine Arts”, and it takes devotion and preparation.  I loved the nursing program, and find that I am already beginning to feel comfortable in the role of being a registered nurse, though I just graduated and have little experience. I have known I wanted to become I nurse since I was in the sixth grade. There are two reasons I chose the field of nursing.
Nursing is a field that requires compassion for people, patience, knowledge, and love. I find that I relate well with people, I am very compassionate, loving, patient, and I love to learn. Most of all, I love to help people and impact their lives; physically and emotionally. I have learned that nursing requires one to be a patient advocate, which entails all of these characteristics and actions.
